Heritage Ward Preparedness Plan 2012

As the Ward Welfare Specialist (Sis. Patzer) I would like to invite you, the members of the Heritage Ward, to join the Heritage Ward 2012 Preparedness Plan. Each month for the following year we will strive to become better prepared by working on our 72 hour kits, first aid kits, food storage, as well as a monthy Spiritual Goal and a Provident Living Goal. If the outline for each month does not work for your family I encourage you to choose something that does.

February:
72 hour kit: Gather a change of clothes including underwear and shoes for each family member--include warm coats and boots or have them immediately accessible. Ax, shovel and bucket as well as a utility knife. $20.00 cash and $5.00 change for phone or have cell immediately accessible.
First Aid Kit: Sturdy lightweight Container e.g.- Ammunition box, tool box or a large fishing tackle box. (If you are just starting out)
Food Storage: 24 cans of meat or fish per person, 1 gallon bleach per person, can opener, garbage bags, laundry detergent
Spiritual Goal: Hold FHE every Monday Night this month.
Provident Living: review your retirement goals. Are you putting enough aside to be able to support yourselves and to do the things you want to do when you retire?
Also, change the batteries in your smoke alarm.

March:
Spiritual Goal: Schedule time each day to read with your family from the Book of Mormon.
Provident Living Goal: Plan and carry out a FHE on home fires. Include planning an escape route and practicing it.
Food Storage Goal: 100 lbs. pasta & flour per person, hand grain mill, thread, needles, buttons and zippers
72 hour kits: 1 gallon water per person, scriptures, personal documents such as: genealogical records, wills, passports, insurance, contracts, birth certificates, patriarchal blessings etc.
First Aid: Bandaids, Adhesive Tape (1/2" & 1"), Roller Bandaids (narrow & wide), Sterile Gauze Dressing (4x4. 2x2, abdomen 2x2, 3x3) Eye Pad Dressing, Steri-Strips, Kleenex and a First Aid Manual.

April:
Spiritual Goal: Have family prayer at least once a day. Twice is better
Provident Living Goal: Learn a new skill or read a book pertaining to your career.
72 hour kit: 1 lb. dried fruit or trail mix per person (can use fruit leather), 1 package soda crackers per person, 1 package graham crackers per person, 2 liters tomato juice or orange juice per person ( note these items will be rotated every 6 months), ALSO, make a goal to always have the fuel tanks on ALL vehicles at least half full.
Food Storage: 50 cans of soup, stew or chili per person, 5 lbs. salt per person, 20 lbs. fat, oil or shortening per person, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, storage bags etc. At least 5 gallons water per person--recommended is 14 gallons/person for 2 weeks.

May:
Spiritual Goal:
Attend the Temple one more session than you normally do this month.
Provident Living Goal: If you do not normally grow a garden, plan to grow at least one vegetable this year. If you already have a garden either: 1) grow a vegetable you haven't tried before or 2) try a new method or technique this year.
72 hour kit: 4 granola bars per person, 2 sticks beef jerky per person, 1 pkg. chewing gum per person, hard candies or lollipops--at least 12 per person.
Food Storage: 2 lbs. yeast per person, 2 lbs. baking powder per person, 1 lb. baking soda per person, 1 gal. vinegar per person, 10 cans evaporated milk per person, 10 lbs. peanut butter per person, spices, condiments and vanilla.
First Aide Kit: Thermometer, Cotton Balls, Cotton Tipped Applicators, Wash and Dry Towelletes, Scissors, String

June:
Spiritual Goal: Share a Book of Mormon with a friend.
Provident Living Goal: Make a goal and plan to exercise regularly.
Food Storage Goal: 100 lbs. variety of cereal grain-rice, oatmeal etc. per person
                                  24 rolls paper towell per person
                                  24 pkgs. flavored gelatin per person
                                  1 small bottle olive oil (for consecrating)
                                  At least one month prescription ahead for all prescribed medication
72 hour kit: battery operated radio, battery operated light, batteries
First Aide Kit: Penlight, Medicine Dropper, Tweezers, Tonque Depressors, Emergency Blanket, Matches
