To Nourish and Strengthen

Our October meeting will be all about meal planning on October 19th, it's a wednesday! We will have a meal at 6 p.m. There will be different dishes to try and new recipes to add to your collections. You can go home with healthy meal plans to feed your families throughout the week and hopefully help your dinner hour run more smoothly. Hope to see you all there.

Here are some of the recipes of the yummy meals we tried tonight!

Sis. Konefall's Island Pork Tenderloin
16 oz pork tenderloin or 4 pork chops
Spice Rub
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp cinnamon
Mix above ingredients together and coat meat with spice rub. Heat 1 Tbsp olive oil in a skillet of moderately high heat and brown pork on all sides turning about every 4 minutes. Place in backing dish.

Topping
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp fresh garlic, finely chopped (I use chopped garlic in a jar, much easier)
1/2 Tbsp Tabasco sauce (less if you don't like spicy)

Stir ingredients together and spread on top of meat. Put in 350 oven and cook for about 25 minutes or until done. Serve with rice and vegetable

Sis. Rees's Pork Chop Casserole Supreme
6 boneless pork loin chops - browned in 1 tablespoon oil and seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic salt.
1 six ounce package of stove stuffing - made as per directions on the box
1 can apple pie filling
1 package processed Swiss Cheese slices

Butter a 9 x 13 glass baking dish.
Spread the pie filling on the bottom of the baking dish.
Next place the browned pork chops in a single layer over the apple pie filling.
Now spoon the stove top stuffing over the pork chops and cover with tin foil.

Bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
Cut the cheese slices in half corner wise to form triangles.
Arrange the cheese triangles on top of the casserole.
Return to the oven and bake uncovered for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Sis. Hudson's Broccoli Chicken Noodles
In a skillet brown chicken (boneless skinless thighs or breast) and cut to bite size chunks. In a large pot bring water to boil and add desired amount of noodles (macaroni, rotini, even spaghetti)While Noodles cook Cut 3-4 heads of broccoli in to bite size pieces. When noodles are approaching your desired state of cooked add broccoli and stir to flash boil with the noodles. Drain noodles and broccoli add chicken chunks. Add one to two cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup and salt and pepper to taste

You can now serve the dish or if you are a crazy cheese lover like me now add shredded cheese and let sit till cheese melts (usually only through the prayer)
Or you can put the whole mess in a casserole dish and cover with as much cheese as you can stand and broil till cheese is melted. I recommend Mozzarella, Parmigiana, or Cheddar of course!!

Sis. Orr's Bun's
In a large bowl or Bosch combine:
1/2 c sugar
3 1/2 c warm water
2TBSP yeast (I like active dry yeast)
Stir and let sit so yeast can rise (about 5 min)
ADD:
4 TBSP (1/4c) oil
2 eggs
2 tsp salt
Flour - 8 to 9 cups
I mix the above and stop adding flour when I touch the dough and hardly any sticks to my fingers (really scientific, I know!)
Cover, let rise until dough has doubled in size
Oil 2 cookie sheets, shape buns, let rise until desired size. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes and then top with butter when hot. Let sit for a few minutes and then take buns out of cookie sheets and cool on a cooling rack until completely cool to keep them from sweating in a bag - gag!
Yield - approx. 3 dozen

Sis.Cahill's Roast beef
1 - 1.5 lbs beef ( I usually buy the cheapest kind)
1 Tbsp coarse salt
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp fresh ground pepper
1 Tbsp dry mustard powder
10 cloves garlic

* Stab the beef and stick the garlic in.
* Mix the other stuff and roll the beef on it. Make sure the beef is all covered with the mix.
* Bake it at 375 as much as you want.

The other recipes we tasted tonight should be in your meal planning envelope you got at our activity. - Enchiladas, squash soup, & cauliflower cheese pasta.

Thanks Sister's for a yummy evening!

Daughters in My Kingdom

Quoted from lds.org:

~ The First Presidency
In grateful recognition of the blessing of Relief Society in the lives of Church members, the First Presidency has directed the preparation of Daughters in My Kingdom: The History and Work of Relief Society.   The teachings, stories, and examples in this history book will guide you in establishing priorities and practices in your life that will help increase faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and seek out and help those in need.
paintingThe history of Relief Society teaches the divine identity and infinite worth of daughters of God. It is a Spirit-filled story of strong, faithful, purposeful women who have served with little public recognition.

As you study this history you will see that our Heavenly Father knows His daughters, that He loves them, that He trusts them with sacred responsibilities, and that He guides them as they fulfill those responsibilities.

You are encouraged to share the book with others. Church members of all ages may use the book as a reference in lessons, talks, council meetings, and at home.

Protecting our Families from Predators

Jonathan Alston, Criminal Intelligence Analyst from the RCMP gave some very important information on April 28th at our joint Relief Society Meeting with 12th Ward.

Predators: Protecting Ourselves from Physical and Spiritual Harm.

We learned that before we can protect ourselves from predators, we need to understand the nature of predators.  He then talked about the following: addiction, apathy, apostasy, pride, anger and selfishness. Another topic he touched on was internet/computer safety.  He listed a couple web addresses for information.  If you missed the meeting or forgot the web addresses.  Click here to go to: internet101.ca.   and Click here to go to: deal.org.
